Today, at Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova, a digital pathology laboratory, endowed with modern diagnostic and image analysis equipment, was inaugurated. The donation includes a diagnostic and image analysis system for 100 users, 15 diagnostic units and a macroscopic image recording system. The value of donation is 499,800 Romanian lei (the equivalent of 100,512.79 EUR), which were offered free of charge by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM) within the Government of Romania. The handover act of the donation was signed by the DRRM State Secretary Adrian Dupu and the University Rector Emil Ceban.
During the ceremony, Professor Ceban expressed his gratitude for the support and firm commitment of the Romanian government in supporting development projects, especially those in the higher education area in the Republic of Moldova, as well as his hope for future cooperation.
"We are sure that equipping the University with state-of-the-art medical imaging equipment, with a diagnostic and image analysis system, as well as with a macroscopic image recording system, intended for the field of education and research in medicine, will have a significant impact both on the quality of the education and professional training process of future specialist doctors, as well as on scientific research in medicine and pharmacy. Through these valuable donations, we are getting closer to achieving our goals of continuous improvement of the higher medical education system and providing primary and specialized healthcare to people", specified rector Emil Ceban.
Secretary of State Adrian Dupu emphasized that a large part of the financial resources allocated by the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova last year were directed to the development of educational projects in our country both in the pre-university and university environment.
"We collaborated with 7 universities from the Republic of Moldova, including Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy - our partner that we are happy to support, because the students and researchers of the University not only study, but are also the people who will save lives. I think we have an even greater need for competent medical personnel, who can practice in the best conditions, and quality education is not possible without modern equipment. I am glad that with the inauguration of this laboratory, students will have the opportunity to work at a higher level. European integration requires quality work and the best possible conditions, and Romania has committed, from the very beginning, to support the Republic of Moldova in this process", added the Romanian official, reiterating his belief that the bilateral partnership will continue.
"We are honored to be among the few universities in Europe equipped with such high-performance equipment", stated Associate Professor Eugen Melnic, head of the Department of Pathology, who thanked the Government of Romania and especially the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova for contribution to the improvement of the quality of education and research at Nicolae Testemitanu University.
Mihail Parlov, head of studies at the Department of Pathology, together with a team of resident doctors, demonstrated the functionality and advantages of this diagnostic and image analysis system.
It should be mentioned that, in November 2023, DRRM donated to our university a high-performance scanner - digital imaging system of histological, cytological and immunohistochemical slides - a set of components necessary for implementing modern methods of pathology teaching and learning, evaluating knowledge, and modernizing the process of medical research.
